June 21: SCARECROWS DVD update
When we first broke the news that William Wesley’s SCARECROWS was making its long-awaited DVDebut September 11 from MGM Home Video through Fox Home Video, we had been told the disc would be a no-frills release. But Fango scribe Brian Albright, who’s working on a SCARECROWS retrospective article for us, heard from Wesley that this is not the case. “You can expect commentary on the DVD from Cami Winikoff, the producer, [makeup FX artist] Norman Cabrera and yours truly,” the writer/director tells us. “Also included will be my original storyboards, to which the film is pretty faithful.” Look for Brian’s SCARECROWS piece in Fango #267, on sale in September. —Michael Gingold

June 26: Hear the sounds of BURNING
MVD Entertainment sent along word that it will reissue the long-out-of-print soundtrack for 1981’s slasher fave THE BURNING August 28, as part of a series of CDs showcasing the work of composer/performer Rick Wakeman from YES. The disc arrives in time to tie in with the uncut DVDebut (see details here) of the film, which features shocking gore FX by Tom Savini and early appearances by Holly Hunter, Jason Alexander, Fisher Stevens and others, and was one of the very first movies produced by Miramax’s Harvey and Bob Weinstein. The CD contains 36 minutes of remastered music, consisting of 11 tracks:

It's just as great as I knew it would be. This sucker is fucking HUGE and thick. An oversized monster of a book! Words can't explain just how killer and ESSENTIAL this is for fans of obscure cinema. I ordered my copy from the UK as it hasn't hit the states yet, but do all you can to order it now as it's worth every freaking cent!
