Interview with Elektrokutioner and Sinworm from DECREPITAPH!

1. The new DECREPITAPH album, "Beyond the Cursed Tombs", is heavier and more catchier than the first album was. Did you guys plan this or did it just come naturally? How long did it take to write and record the album?

Elektrokutioner: I knew I wanted to make the next album heavier than the first, and I think we succeeded at that. The first album was definitely heavy, but this new one is just pushing the limits of heaviness recorded with cheap gear at my house! But, hopefully I can find a way to make the third album even more over the top. As far as the catchier aspect, I guess it wasn't done on purpose but it's always in my head to make memorable songs with repeating parts rather than just 4 minute songs of wanky garbage just for the sake of showing off.

Sinworm: I think it came naturally for us as we are on the same page being in pursuit of making the heaviest music possible. We recorded it in a few sessions, one for drums, one for guitars and bass, then one for vocals and leads. It didn't take relatively long since we've been making a habit of recording.

2. I heard that you guys actually had over 20 songs written and then you just picked the best ones from that. What became of the other songs you wrote? Will they be used for splits and EP's?

Elektrokutioner: We had around 18-19 I think, since we ended up using a few of them for the Father Befouled and Meathole Infection split 7"s we did. I think 2 or 3 of them will be totally scrapped as neither myself or Sinworm really thinks they are up to par with our other material. We kept two of the songs for the upcoming MCD on Archasm Releasing in mid 2010. They weren't written specifically for that release, but once we had all the songs written and we went through them and decided on album songs, we saved two for the MCD. We will probably write one new one and use one of the leftover songs for that as well. As far as upcoming splits and 7"s and stuff, we have already recorded 3 new songs for a 4 way split CD, as well as new songs for split 7"s with Offal and Eroded that will be coming very soon!

3. Speaking of splits and EP's, it seems like you have a bunch of them planned. Please tell us all about them and which ones will be out first.

Elektrokutioner: First up is the Offal and Eroded split 7"s I just mentioned. All those songs and artwork are ready to go. I estimate they will be out in early Spring or so. We also recorded for that 4 way split CD in early December, but I'm not sure when that will see the light of day. Starting in a few days, we are going to start rehearsing for the MCD on Archasm and then we will probably record for it in late February or early March. We expect that to be out by early Summer if all goes well. After that... well, who knows!! We hope to get another 7" or two at the least. Hopefully after this new album comes out, we'll get a little more interest in the band and will be given some more offers to do stuff.

4. I know you're doing a MCD soon also called "Conjuring Chaos". Tell us about this release.

Sinworm: Some of these songs are ones that unfortunately couldn't fit on the new album, so consider it almost like a missing chapter to Beyond the Cursed Tombs.

Elektrokutioner: That is the one coming out on Archasm Releasing, who also did our split 7" with Father Befouled. It will have 4 new and exclusive songs and maaaaaaaybe a little surprise or something else on there too. We haven't exactly decided yet. It will probably be limited to 500 copies or less and it should be out by the Summer.

5. Nobody writes death metal songs as fast as you it seems like! How are you able to always write so much high quality material in such a short amount of time?

Elektrokutioner: Well, when it comes to playing music, I'm not lazy. If we want to get a CD or 7" out, I just sit down and write it basically. It all comes naturally to me at this point. I throw away a lot of stuff that I don't think is good enough, or if the style starts to veer off into something different, I just use that for a different band/project. Our songs are anything but complex, so it's pretty easy to write them fairly quickly if you know what you're doing.

6. Tell everybody about the house you live in with guitars hanging on the walls, amps in the dining room, etc. I'm sure lots of people would love to know! How many guitars and amps do you have....and WHY so many?

Elektrokutioner: Yes, that is all true! Music gear is an obsession and something you must spend money on to get the sounds you want. In these days when any jackass can download a bootleg drum program and plug his guitar into a pod and run it into his computer, I think there are some people out there that can appreciate REAL cranked amp sounds and REAL drums being played by REAL people. I'm not into that digital processed sound at all, so we record all our stuff with mics in front of loud amps, the way it should be. I know I can tell the difference between real sounds and fake sounds and I think a lot of the fans can tell too. As for the amount, I think I'm down to 20 guitars after selling off 15 or so.. but I mainly sold them off to buy MORE AMPS! I think I'm at 10 high gain heads and around 15 4x12 and 2x15 cabs I believe.

7. What makes DECREPITAPH different from all the other bands you're involved with. Is it harder to keep it different and separate or is it easy since it has a distinct sound?

Elektrokutioner: I think it's different because it's the most natural thing for me to play. When I decide to do a side project that is thrashier or something, it's different than my normal playing style, so I have to try harder to create it. I also love playing real punk/grind, and that is why I have Bastard Cross. That is the other style that comes naturally to me. Everything else where I'm trying to make something different ends up being way harder to do. But, I still do it because it's usually a challenge to make myself thing differently. You'd probably never guess the same guy that wrote 'Beyond The Cursed Tombs' also wrote the Bastard Cross album, or the Skincrawler album for that matter. I hate people that do 4422489 bands that all sound the same.

8. The first album was loved by death metal fans but also doom fans as well, and yet there also seemed to be some doom metal fans who thought it "wasn't doom enough", which is ridiculous to me. What are your thoughts on this?

Sinworm: I was surprised at how many people said they really liked the album. However they want to call it, don't really matter. They could call it "Hippie Devil Music" and it would still be heavy to me.

Elektrokutioner: The last thing I care about is pleasing narrow minded doom fans haha I really don't care who likes us or who doesn't, honestly. We sound like we sound because that is what Sinworm and myself want to play and if you think we "aren't doom enough" or we don't have some stupid gimmick to our band just so we sell more, then we don't want you as a fan anyway!

9. What are some bands you'd like to do splits with in the future? Any cool new bands you like today or do you mostly just stick to the older stuff?

Elektrokutioner: Hmm.. This is a tough question. I'd like to maybe do a split 7" with Grave Ritual, even though we basically already did when they were called Meathole Infection. But after their album comes out, I would love to do a "Razorback split" of sorts. I could also see us doing a split with Horrendous as they are a cool band and Damian from the band has been helping with the mixing of our 7" songs as Patrick from Crypticus has been busy. There are definitely good bands around now, but it's hard enough for me to keep up with all my own releases, I'm not doing as much genre exploring as I used to.

10. Are you fed up with myspace or do you feel like it still serves a purpose? There seems to be more bands than ever on there now and lots of them seem to be focused on just trying to sell stuff rather than making new music. You guys always put out lots of music. Is this a reaction to the laziness of bands today or something that just comes natural to you?

Elektrokutioner: I hate MySpace, but it's important from a band standpoint. I'm in this to get cool releases out there and that is basically it. It means more to me getting an email from a fan saying they loved our album than it does selling 8494398 shirts to faceless "fans". I mean, the point of being a band is to play music, which is what I love to do. If people like it and buy our albums, that's cool.. But if not, I'm still going to scrape together the money myself to put out a 7" or a demo CD or something like that because it's an accomplishment to get your music released and available to people that want it.

11. You guys also print up your own t-shirts and put out your own record as well, which is rare today considering most bands just rely on other people to do stuff for them. Do you have fun putting out your own stuff and doing mail/orders, and keeping up with all of this stuff? Does it ever get boring or annoying to do it? What keeps you going in the metal scene after all these years?

Elektrokutioner: The only annoying part is the price of shipping haha The way I look at it, if you're not willing to invest some of your own money into doing shirts and stuff for your band, then you are playing music for the WRONG reasons. If you honestly don't care about that stuff, then you shouldn't even bother recording your music and trying to get someone to release it in the first place. If you can make money doing it, that's great. If you lose money.. oh well! That is part of the deal of being a Death Metal band. I guess what keeps me going is still having ideas that I want to get out, still hearing new bands that I think are cool, and still hoping one day the metal scene will be as cool as it was 15-20 years ago.. even though I KNOW that won't happen.

12. Will the band play anymore live shows or are you just focusing on recording and new releases?

Elektrokutioner: It's possible, but we don't have anything lined up right now. Playing live once in a while is fun, but doing it too much severely limits your rehearsing and recording time, so it's not worth it. I'd rather have a cool release out that will be around forever than play some lame dive bar show every weekend to 5 people.

13. Feel free to talk about any of your other bands here and what releases you have coming up with them.

Elektrokutioner: Wow, this could take a while haha Well, in terms of what is coming out soon.. The debut Encoffination 7" is at press now and should be out in March sometime. We also printed up limited shirts for it. The Festered album has been out on Razorback for a few months now and we have plans to record another CD and possibly a 7" on Archasm this year. I think we've found a label for the Skincrawler/Old Bones split, so hopefully that be coming out this Summer. Also, the first Skincrawler album 'Lair of the Foul' will be pressed on vinyl LP soon. I recently did drum tracks for the Beyond Hell demo and album, and once the final mixes are done, the demo CD will be out, then the full CD shortly after. In March, we plan to record the debut Scaremaker album for Razorback. I'm looking forward to that a lot! Stone Evil with Lasse from Hooded Menace will have a flexi 7" (remember those??) on Doomentia Records sometime pretty soon. I'm also getting ready to record the drums for the debut Foreboding album, which is me and Rogga from Paganizer/Ribspreader. I'm also going to record a Goatstorm split tape on Archasm, which is a solo project of very primitive and barbaric black/death. In the most exciting news yet, it looks like 2010 will finally see the release of the Tombstones album as well! I can't wait to hear that finished up! Sooooo, I think that's it for now haha

Sinworm: Decrepitaph is really a side project to my main band consisting of my wife and two boys! No but really, I have a one man project called Sinworm and a 7 song release is on the way this spring followed by another full length release later this year.

14. Isn't HARD ROCK ZOMBIES the best film ever, or what?!?

Elektrokutioner: I'm more fond of Black Roses and Rocktober Blood, but Hard Rock Zombies is a classic!!! I love how when they die, they bury the band 3 inches underground and not even in a coffin! hahaha!

15. Any last comments?

Sinworm: Thank you Billy for your help and support, and now to continue with the Ancient Death Metal.

Elektrokutioner: Thanks to you Billy and Razorback for sticking with Decrepitaph all this time, and we look forward to opinions on the new album!!!!

Here's a brand new interview with Rogga from REVOLTING! The band will be releasing their 2nd CD later this year on Razorback, titled "The Terror Threshold"! Hear what Rogga has to say about the band and the upcoming material...

1. hey Rogga, tell us about the upcoming 2nd CD from REVOLTING, "The Terror Threshold". What's different about this album from the debut CD?
Rogga: The sound is different as its from another mix session but besides that its pretty much more of the same rotten yet catchy death metal as on the debut. There's some more melody on this new stuff though, which fits very well into the Revolting sound.

2. Tell us about the unreleased MCD, "Bonesaw Leftovers". When was this material recorded and what do you like about the songs?
Rogga: These songs were recorded between the debut and the coming album, and is in the same style of corpse. Some of my fave Revolting songs are among these tracks actually, so I hope this minicd will be released in a not too distant future.

3. What would you say the differences between REVOLTING are with your other band RIBSPREADER? Obviously the art/concept is different, but musically would you say they're kinda similar or is there something that helps set them apart?
Rogga: Ribspreader is also the spawn of Andreas so we compliment each other when doing songs in that band. Revolting is just me writing the stuff, so it comes out a bit different. In Revolting there's more ugly riffing going on and blast beats as well which was something we never used in Ribspreader. However I can understand people who don't pick up on the difference between the bands haha.

4. REVOLTING has a killer, very eye-catching band logo done by Jeff Zornow. Are you happy with the way that came out? He's now provided the art for the 2nd CD as well. Are you happy with it?
Rogga: The logo is just killer, its totally old school and gory in that cool way. The artwork for the coming album is beyond cool too, there's so much detail to it and the overall concept is so cool. The man is a genius but I think most people know that already.

5. You've done a lot of REVOLTING material in a short amount of time. What inspires you to write material? Does it come natural to you at this point?
Rogga: Actually all the material for Revolting, the debut as well as the minicd and the upcoming album, was recorded within just a month or so. I had some inspiration and it turned out really cool if I might say it myself. Music like Revolting is the stuff that sure does come to me naturally, it's what I was born to write and play I guess. I couldn't write a pop song or a technical death metal song even if I spent weeks trying. I'm retarded that way. I'm retarded in many ways actually.

6. Do you have any unreleased REVOLTING songs besides the MCD? I know you were working on some new songs like "The Hatched" and "Diabolical Metamorphosis"?
Rogga: I sure have some pieces here and there, might even have a few finished songs too haha. Haven't felt the need to finish something big yet though as there's already so much material done. But when time comes I guess it´ll be a double album that needs to be released...

7. There's a photo on the REVOLTING myspace page with Martin from ASPHYX wearing a REVOLTING t-shirt! Who made these and where can a fan get them?
Rogga: Bob from Asphyx made them for the guys in the band actually, and he sent me one too. I was really blown away when he told me all the guys in the band were Revolting fans, stuff like that is crazy to hear for someone who has been one of their fans for so many years. Its very cool indeed, and very cool of Mr Van Drunen to sport it onstage as well.

8. What would you like to do for a possible 3rd REVOLTING album?
Rogga: As mentioned above, I'd really like to make a double album, a conceptual one with some really twisted horror theme. I think it should also be building up gradually with slower more ominous tracks in the first part and then steadily go towards the more usual Revolting sound and then finish with the faster more melodic songs. That would be a cool journey for the listener. Some cool guest vocals should be added too, especially if the concept of the album is built around a bunch of central characters.

9. Are there any bands out there you'd like to do some possible split EP's with?
Rogga: There are many of them haha, I'd especially like to do a split with Cianide someday. That band is awesome, however as they're legends and I'm not. I doubt there would be any interest in that haha.

HOG-WILD HOWLS blog is back! blah blah...I'm not gonna ramble on about it. Let's just get to some cool updates and news! First off....here's a new interview I did with Ghoat from the band FESTERED, who have a full-length CD coming out soon on Razorback! If you like old-style Death Metal with catchy songs you can headbang to, then you'll totally love this stuff! This band will really surprise a lot of people.

Interview with Ghoat from FESTERED!

1. Hey tell us about how FESTERED came together.
It was basically Elektrokutioner (Drums) approaching me saying he wanted to do yet something else from the other 3492749 side projects we both have. The intention with this one however was to make it an actual band, and he flew Reaper (Guitar, bass) down from Massachusetts, and they wrote and recorded the album in about 3-4 days. E. and I talk pretty fucking often, and he knew I was right for this, so it just unearthed itself.

2. You've been playing in the band FATHER BEFOULED for some time now. What made you want to get another band going? What are the differences between the bands?
These two bands are night and day, haha. FB is solely and firmly rooted in sounding like a dreary, oppressive death metal band from New Jersey, circa 1992. Our pretty much only influence is Incantation, haha. With Festered we wanted to do something a little thrashier, and more retarded directed, like Autopsy. Both Elektrokutioner and I are known for being in extremely heavy death metal bands (Father Befouled and Decrepitaph), and we wanted to show the fans/listeners that there are many sides to DM, and not just being fucking brutal.

3. There seems to be a very subtle horror influence to FESTERED...is this to keep the fans guessing what the songs are about? I'm sure not many people will be able to tell what they are!
I hope it is more than just subtle! I am a horror fiend, and I have never had the chance to convey my love of the form in music. Death metal definitely has a horror-feel, but I wanted Festered to be a direct homage to certain horror films, but do it differently than the 8747234 other bands that have done the same thing. Whereas each song on ‘Flesh Perversion’ has a direct theme from a particular movie, I did very abstractly. Too many bands make it so obvious that they are singing about Friday the 13th or whatever, and I wanted it to be obscure and enigmatic, so only the real fiends can figure it out. Even with the samples I tried to be vague, even though a couple of them are obvious.

4. The FESTERED album has a very old, 80's kinda feel to it, but done the American way and not the European way. Was this deliberate or did it just turn out that way? Were you guys trying to make it sound different from what the other older-style bands are doing today?
Well, we certainly did not want it to sound new and polished, but I try to stay away from the “this is old school, everything else sucks” mentality. We just fucking recorded it, haha. We wanted it to sound like the bands that influenced it, the way they sounded then, because that it what we listen to. Why bother with sounding like bands these days, when it sounded so fucking good back then? Anyone that says Mental Funeral needs a 2010 production can eat a dead dick.

5. The album sounds like if DEATH's "Scream Bloody Gore" was recorded in 2009, but yet, doesn't sound like anything modern FROM this year. How did you guys pull this off?
Haha, like I said above, we just recorded it… the sound is more from a real lack of knowing what the fuck we are actually doing in the studio than anything, haha.

6. You've been a long time horror fan for many years. Tell us about what kinds of horror stuff you love to collect. Posters, movies, old videos, etc.
I go hardcore-into collecting and watching horror films about 15 years ago, in high school. I was terrified of the shit when I was a kid, and then when I was like 14 or so, it just all clicked with me. I have a collector personality anyway, so watching them immediately became buying them. Mainly I collected/collect VHS tapes and posters. I have over 400 VHS tapes and probably 30 mostly original one sheet posters. For awhile I collected anything related to movies that I came across; daybills, promo shit, figures, toys, etc… but then I realized it was all mostly just a bunch of junk, haha.

Also, I got to where I would go to old video stores and buy like 10-20 tapes at a time, and never have the time to sit down and watch them all. So now, in lieu of collecting so much, I try to watch them on a more regular basis. Tapes are also becoming harder and harder to come by, and I never actively seek them anymore, so I only buy shit when I accidentally come across them. And I just honestly ran out of room for posters, so I quit buying them a few years ago too. Again, I will only buy choice shit if it falls in my lap.

7. Why does the poster art for THE MUTILATOR rule so much???
HAH – that whole movie rules. It is just dumb, senseless 80s slash filth. One of the best taglines ever! The “Fall Break” (the original title) theme song is such fucking awful garbage!

8. What are some other plans you have for FESTERED once the album is out. Does the band plan to do any kinds of splits in the future or other bonus/EP type of material?
Tentatively we want to do a 7” sometime next year on my label, Archasm Releasing. Right now it would be sitting behind several other releases, so it would be awhile before it happens. Then maybe a 2nd full length this time next year.

9. Were you excited to have artwork that Drew Elliott did, who drew tons of great 80's thrash/death stuff? The album art is so perfect for this band!
That art just completely fell in our lap, and it RULES. I believe it was for another RR band who did not use it, so we got the sloppy seconds. IT rules though, because we absolutely could NOT decide on art for this release. We had several options; one being some badass shit Rafal from Poland drew, which we loved, but just could not make work as the cover, and I wanted to poach some Chas Balun shit from an old issue of Gore Shriek, which is obviously illegal, haha! Then Billy from Razorback ran the idea of using this by us, and we were all just like “YES! THAT’S IT!!!” I actually had the honor of coloring it, so I was stoked on that!

10. Tell us about your label Archasm Records and some of the stuff you've released and plan to up ahead. Any possible FESTERED releases?
Archasm was started by me mainly to release the Father Befouled/Decrepitaph split that no one would fucking touch! Funny too, cause the shit sold out in like 3 weeks. Their loss, haha!

I always wanted to do a label, because, in addition to making music, I like to support music, and being an extremely creative person, I am always having to be doing something. Whether it be writing music, doing design (I am a graphic designer by trade… barely. NEED JOBS), or working with other bands, I have to have something in front of me.

Right now, our second release is about to come out; a CD by the Belgian bestial black/death band, Vociferian. Then a 7” by Encoffination – yet another Ghoat/Elektrokutioner collaboration. Haha, I am starting to feel like a rapper doing guest spots, fuck! Encoff is very morbid and occult sounding death metal. We wrote the songs together in Texas while FB was on tour and we were staying with E. at his place. He and I work well together, that is why we do so many side-bands. AR is also a platform for me to release shit by bands/projects I am in. I would rather have complete control of something, from inception to release, rather than fool with trying to sell it to another label to put out.

The debut CD from HOODED MENACE will be out this Fall on Razorback Records! I spent some time asking lead hooded-freak Lasse some questions about the band and upcoming album! Check it out! And also go to the Razorback Records myspace page to hear an exclusive new track from the album.

1.Hey Lasse, tell us a little bit about how HOODED MENACE came together. What was your inspiration to start this band?

Lasse: It all started in June of 2007 when I was jamming Candlemass songs with my two friends. Instead of melodic singing I just growled the lyrics in death metal vocal style. We really enjoyed playing that style and liked how it all sounded and thought that maybe we should write our own material that was a combination of doom and death metal. Also we couldn..t think of too many awesome doom/death bands that were around at the time but just lame keyboard "doom" bands and boring funeral doom crap so we decided to give it a try.

2.HOODED MENACE takes influence from the Blind Dead films, but also other stuff as well. Why do you think the Blind Dead imagery fits so well with Doom Metal? Also, what is your favorite of the 4 Blind Dead films?

Lasse: The overall creepy atmosphere of the films and the slow pacing of the Blind Dead just fits so perfectly to this type of music. All that foreboding mood... It's a match made in heaven or hell.

Choosing the best of them is so hard that I'd rather not do that but if someone forced me to I guess right now I would choose "The Ghost Galleon" because I haven't watched it for a while. Next week it could be "Night of the Seagulls". So the favourite keeps changing. I just choose them all!

3.I know yo'u're a big fan of CANDLEMASS. Tell us which your favorites are by them! Also, do you think the melodies in the band help keep HOODED MENACE separate from some of the other bands playing doom metal today?

Lasse: I'm a fan of the old stuff up to "Tales of Creation" which I think is the last great Candlemass album. "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" is easily my favourite right next to "Nightfall". I know they (Leif Edling) improved from the debut album to "Nightfall" a bit songwriting-wise but at the same time the band lost a bit of that murky atmosphere that made "Epicus..." so special. Of course the singer is also different and I have to say I..m more a fan of Johan Langquist than Messiah Marcolin though both are awesome vocalists. I just think that Langquist had more feeling in his vocals and he just had that perfect tone for Candlemass.

Yeah, I guess the melodies we have must make us a bit different from the other bands out there nowadays. I hope so. We are not about pure monotonic crushing doom or gay keyboard sweet melody "doom". We are more like an evil ugly and chunky little brother of Candlemass or Cathedral. A brother that didn't want to sing but just grunt.

4. What are some other doom metal bands you enjoy? Do you think there's too many of them and not enough to make any stand out from each other? What do you think helps keep HOODED MENACE interesting and not "just another doom band"?

Lasse: Aside from old Cathedral and Candlemass I enjoy doom bands like Electric Wizard, Trouble, Saint Vitus, Reverend Bizarre,Isole to name a few. The rough doomy stuff like Winter and Coffins is also cool. I don't follow the scene too much and I listen to only a handful of bands compared to some doom freaks out there. I can stick with my old faves and get inspired by them again and again.

I don't know if there are too many doom bands as I don't follow the scene that much. I guess there are too many bands in every category today and as far as I know in every category vast majority of the stuff is boring. Probably it's just the same thing with doom bands.

I think Hooded Menace is interesting and stands out because we have good, catchy songs tho they are very crushing and doomy still. We are not slow just for the sake of slowness. We do not play one note for like 4 minutes to make our song more "epic". We try to avoid of being boring. Good songwriting is the fond of it all. To make a slow, creepy, crushing, long but still interesting and great song is a challenge in writing doom/death metal. Also not many bands don..t seem to play stuff like we are.

5.Your first release just came out, "The Eyeless Horde" 7" EP. Tell us about this release and how it came out on Doomentia Records! The quality and packaging is amazing! Will you be doing the LP version of your album with them also?

Lasse: Thanks! I agree it really came out great! Doomentia did amazing job as well as Eric "Rot" Engelmann created totally brilliant artwork for it. We will work with Doomentia again for the vinyl release of our full lenght. I bet that will be such an awesome package too!

6.Tell us about the upcoming debut album on Razorback Records. Name some of the songs, and tell us what they're like compared to the demo/EP songs you did. Are you happy with the production and sound for this album?

Lasse: The album is entiled "Fulfill the Curse" and it contains 9 songs. We are very happy with the result. It sounds and looks great. Putrid did a stunning job with the artwork. It..s all black&white and just grim! Also the layout by who else but Sly from Fondlecorpse rules! The production is crushingly heavy and big. Still totally DIY without any of that expensive pro studio shit.

Music is still very much in the same way as on the demo/EP. However there is a track like "The Love Song for Gotho, Hunchback of the Morgue" which is a bit faster than our usual stuff. Of course "fast" only in terms of Hooded Menace. I would also bring up a song called "Grasp of the Beastwoman" with its pretty melodic Candlemass and horror soundtrackish Fabio Frizzi influenced parts. That..s also a new flavor and hey, we have also covered Fabio Frizzi..s "Theme from Manhattan Baby" for the album!

7. What are some goals for the band? Do you want to play live or just focus on recordings? Do you want to get more EP's out and more vinyl releases? Any bands you'd like to do splits with?

Lasse: We have no plans to play live. It doesn't feel tempting at all. We just wanna document our music. Playing live, doing a show is not really what we are all about. We rather use that time and energy in creating new music. We don't have plans after the full length is out other than planning the follow up album but sure a split or 7"EP could be cool. I really don..t know with whom we would love to make a split. We haven't thought about that at all yet. Maybe they should reform Eternal Darkness for the split release... or are they already resurrected?!?! I know shit! Anatomia could be also a cool partner for a split.

8.When it comes time to do a 2nd CD, what would you like to try to do with it? Any changes? Is it a challenge to write such epic sounding songs?

Lasse: It will be a challenge to write songs but it..s also something I..m really looking forward to. We have a few riffs in store and they all sound like "Fulfill the Curse" material so for now I don't except any big changes. I only wish that we could record as solid entirety for the follow up. We wanna stay as creepy and crushing as always.

9.Tell us about any doom bands from Finland that you enjoy. What has the response been towards the band over there?

Lasse: Puritan (if you can call them doom) and also Fall of the Idols sounds nice. Again, as I don..t follow the scene that much I possibly miss some decent stuff. So, I'm far from an expert to answer to this.

The response towards Hooded Menace has been pretty good in Finland also. Sweet reviews and nice response.

10.The glory days of the old Finnish death metal scene are long gone, but it seems like you're helping to keep it alive with HOODED MENACE, as well as your other band VACANT COFFIN (interview with that band in the future). Do you miss the old days in the early 90's? Who were some old bands you were good friends with in those days?

Lasse: I miss the freshness of ideas and since I'm very nostalgic person I miss the those times just like I miss the 80..s too. Anyway, I'm very comfortable with the present and what I ..m doing musically today. These days rule! To me it's almost like the late 80s, early 90s are back since I spend over a decade doing basically nothing sensible and serious musically.

I don't know if we were very "good friends" with anyone but I recall we felt that we had something in common and some kinda friendship with bands like Disgrace, Xysma, Sentenced, Demigod... We weren..t the most social guys really.

11.If you have any last words please tell us! Good luck with the debut CD and keep crushing with the mighty HOODED MENACE!

CRYPTICUS interview!

The new CRYPTICUS album, "They Called Me Mad", will be out soon on Razorback Records. Here's an interview with mastermind, Patrick Bruss, that lets you know all about it!

1. Patrick, tell us a bit about the upcoming new CRYPTICUS album, "THEY CALLED ME MAD". It this a concept album? What are some themes you're taking on with it this time around? Anymore Lovecraft inspired stuff?

Patrick: Hey Billy, here we are 3 years later doing another interview!
I initially didn't intend it as a concept album, but as I was writing the lyrics they all ended up concerning weird obsessive madmen & secret cults planning elaborate & supernatural revenge upon the world for its lack of imagination.
I'm not expecting any radio play, to say the least!
As always, I snuck in many Lovecraftian elements, but "THE SHUNNED HOUSE"
& "ASTROPHOBOS" are the only real literary adaptations this time.

2. Why did it take over 3 years for the album to be completed?
Did you become METALLICA or something? haha, just kidding.
What were some of the hardest parts of doing the album and some of the challenges and goals you had for it.

Patrick: Hey, we still have 2 months to go before it's officially 3 years!!
Also, I'm pretty sure this sounds MUCH better than "ST. ANGER"!
(or "ST. ANKY" as I like to call it.)
I basically kept changing things & re-recording stuff until I felt
that there were no boring, or redundant parts & that it was all evil!
Then I got really obsessive & began to micro analyze every detail,
trying to capture my weirdest thoughts & translate them into Death Metal riffs.
After about a year I had so many strange elements lying around
that it became a titanic task just to assemble everything
into something someone else might possibly enjoy listening to!
Luckily my friends Justin, Andon & Carl came on board & helped give me some perspective as well as lending their talents.
Initially I just wanted to make some more evil Horror Metal,
but things got WAAAY out of hand & it turned into a Frankenstein monster with a life of its own! In the end it all came together as a good sequel to the low budget original. If the first album was "THE EVIL DEAD", this would be "EVIL DEAD II"!

3. One of the things that's different on the new album are the use of real drum sounds, instead of the drum machine from the debut.
How do you feel having real drums over the drum machine this time around?
Who performed the drums, by the way?

Patrick: That was one of the big challenges in the beginning.
I'm so used to doing everything myself that it felt very strange
involving other more talented folks!
It was a true collaboration - My friend Carl Kumpe (of the late PAINSTAKE)
played the drums, but they were mainly composed by myself & my buddies
Justin Lascelle & Andon Guenther who are in ENEMY REIGN.
Putting the 2 albums side-by-side there's no comparison:
The live drums have a much nastier, more rotted sound to them & alot more character!

4. The new album once again features artwork from Allen K.
What is it about his art that you enjoy so much and that makes you want to work with him? A few people have said the new album art reminds them of the DECEASED "SUPERNATURAL ADDICTION" art, which is not shocking since it's the same artist. But the art on the new CRYPTICUS album was drawn YEARS before the DECEASED one, right?

Patrick: As far as I know, yes.
Either way though, Allen K. is a master of the macabre
& I'm a HUGE fan of that DECEASED album as well!
Both DECEASED & Allen K. have been a huge influence on CRYPTICUS,
so it's no coincidence.

5. You told me you felt the new album is more "cinematic" than the debut.
Tell us what you meant by that.

Patrick: I set out to create an album meant just for headphones.
Every song leads right into the next one & there's a lot more weird,
progressive riffs & atmospheres than before.
Strange interludes, snippets of macabre dialogue & more creepy keyboard parts!
The title track alone has almost as many riffs as the whole first album.
Instrumentally it's much crazier than before, but it's all meant to create a circus of horrors in the mind of the listener.

6. CRYPTICUS seems to be a band that is a pure "album only" band.
Everything has been crafted perfectly to be a true album listening experience.
Are you content with this, or do you ever see yourself playing live in the future?
What makes you prefer recording albums over doing the whole live thing?

Patrick: I've been on tour with other bands & never really enjoyed it.
Too goddamn hectic!
I'm much more of a studio musician -
I like having the time to experiment & change things.
Just like my hero Dan Swano I sweat all the tiny details,
but thankfully I don't have all that damn talent of his to weigh me down!
I'd like to play a couple of special shows someday,
but that would be purely for fun, not for commerce.

7. Musically, the new album is more varied and a bit more "insane" sounding,
but still keeping that catchy early 90's Swedish death metal influence strong.
What were some things that helped to influence and inspire you for the new album.

Patrick: Oh boy - this will probably freak-out alot of the Razorfiends,
but besides my steady diet of NECRONY, DISMEMBER & INFESTDEAD,
the new album was hugely influenced by SIGH, GOBLIN & early RUSH!!
I've combined the weird, proggy aspects of '70s & '80s
Horror movie soundtracks with the Scandinavian Death Metal elements.

8. Your vocals seem to be even deeper and more "inhuman" than on the debut album,
though I remember you told me that doing the vocals were the most difficult part of the album. Tell us about the vocal recording process and what you like and dislike about it. And how the hell do you get your voice to sound like a demon lurking deep within the grounds of hell?

Patrick: Unlike Rogga Johansen, I haven't been blessed with the voice of Hell
so it's pretty tough for me to do this crazy stuff!
I refuse to go the Goregrind route & just pitch-shift everything,
so my throat gets pretty messed up by the end.
This time I discovered that eating hot peppers between verses helps to preserve the gross growls. A better microphone helped too!

9. It doesn't seem like CRYPTICUS fits into any one "scene" or genre, despite being total death metal. It seems like the people who enjoy the band are people who really enjoy quality death metal and aren't looking for the next trend or fad,
and just enjoy the band for what it is. How do you feel about that?
Are you happy being a cult band or do you have any bigger goals for the band?

Patrick: Well Billy, as you know I've been turning down offers to play OZZFEST for years now. They just refuse to fulfill the pipe tobacco & New Belgium Beer clause in my rider! Seriously though, I'm just really happy that there are morbid individuals out there who share my love for the macabre & hatred of sunlight!
All my goals concerning the CRYPTICULT involve horrific plans best not described here - just read the lyrics to "MOAT OF BLOOD" & you'll understand!!

10. I remember a few years ago you were planning to do a split CD with RIBSPREADER. Whatever happened with that release plan?
What are some bands you'd like to do splits with if you could? Do you plan to do any EP's with CRYPTICUS ever?

Patrick: I will if you put them out ya bastid!
I'd love to do anything with Rogga, him being another hero of mine.
I think he's probably too busy these days though.
My dream splits would be with DEMIURG, CLAWS, MACHETAZO or VACANT COFFIN. I'd really like to do some 7" releases in the future, so anyone interested
in releasing some cursed vinyl needs to get in contact!

11.You're currently recording for the debut BEWARE! album.
Tell us what that's been like so far and how it's all going and what you expect people will think of it. What kinds of musical influences are you bringing to this band?

Patrick: It's coming out great!
Wayne from DECREPITAPH has done all the drums & they sound awesome!
So far it's a mix between DECEASED, "SHOW NO MERCY" era SLAYER & CIANIDE.
A total Deathbanger's ball!
It's all in the spirit of early '80s Death/Speed Metal,
so I'm going to keep it raw & under produced as an antidote to all this triggered, soulless bullshit Metal. I hope all the Razorbastards will love it!

12. Thanks for creating an amazing and memorable new album!
People are really gonna be blown away by this very special and horrific recording.
Any last words?

Patrick: As always, thanks to you & Jill for releasing so many awesome underground gems & for giving my music a chance to be heard outside of my basement! It's great to actually be a part of my favorite label!
Now get to work on finishing that CLAWS album!!!!

Razorback end of the year newsletter!

It's been a long time since I wrote a newsletter, but with so much coming up I felt this was the right time! 2007 is coming to a close and it's time to prepare for 2008, which is going to be the most BUSY year EVER for this label! It is also going to be Razorback's 10 year anniversary as well, so there's LOTS to discuss!

GRUESOME STUFF RELISH is finishing up on their 2nd album, "Horror Rises From The Tomb". This is going to be our first release for 2008, and from the few tracks I've heard it's definitely their best material ever! I've been wanting to do a second album with this band for a long time and I'm glad they returned to deliver the gory goods! The artwork alone by Jeff Zornow is amazing. The album is about to get mastered in Germany and once we have everything we'll be sending it to press!

CRYPTICUS has completed 7 songs for their 2nd album for Razorback, titled "They Called Me Mad". There's only 6 more songs left to complete and then it will be finished and ready for pressing! This album is going to be a totally dark, masterpiece of true horror Death Metal that will finally put this band on the map once and for all. Working with this band has been so much fun as Patrick is totally into what Razorback is all about and really lives for the horror genre and REAL death fucking metal music! The cover artwork by Allen K. is awesome and the booklet will have even more art from him!

CIANIDE's 3rd album from 1998, "Death, Doom and Destruction" is being re-issued by Razorback and we're thrilled to be doing this! I've been a fan of this band since 1991. They're one of the few bands that never gave up on playing killer, pure death metal and get heavier and more intense on every album they do. Seeing them live at the Impetigo reunion show this past summer was UNREAL....truly the HEAVIEST death metal band ever! The album is being re-mastered by Patrick Bruss from Crypticus. If you heard the work he did on the Impetigo re-issues than you know this is gonna sound HEAVIER than ever before! Also, the insane Putrid is currently working on the cover artwork for this which is going to blow everybody away!

BLOOD FREAK is working extremely hard on their 4th album for Razorback, titled "Scared Stiff". This is going to be the most extreme BLOOD FREAK album ever. More death metal, more grind, and more doom than ever before. The album is going to be recorded at an analog studio in the first few months of 2008. Ed Repka is currently working on the cover painting which is going to be incredible! The band is also currently preparing for their first live show in January, and they're also planning a West Coast tour after the release of the new album! They will play in California, Arizona, Colorado, and possibly some other states as well. We'll post more news about this when we have it. Look out everybody, BLOOD FREAK is coming to KILL! Also, Morbid Reality Records is going to be releasing the BLOOD FREAK albums on vinyl LP! The first album "Sleaze Merchants" will be first! More info on that soon as well.

VACANT COFFIN from Finland is new to Razorback, but lead guitar/vocalist Lasse is no stranger to the underground! One of the founding members of the early 90's cult death metal band Phlegethon, Lasse has been working extremely hard on the debut VACANT COFFIN album to be titled "Sewer Skullpture" which is going to be one hell of a killer debut album! This band is bringing back the great oldschool Death Metal/Grind sound that bands from Finland used to be famous(or infamous!) for! Down-tuned, heavy, fast, with those killer shredding riffs that send shivers down your spine! The artwork is being done by the wicked Wes from Australia and is going to be a horror/gore fan's delight!

EVISCERATED from Sweden is also new to Razorback Records. The band plays pure oldschool Swedish Death Metal with a total horror influence! These fiends are obsessed with the classic European horror films from the glory days and have incorporated that into their diabolic sound. We're absolutely thrilled to be working with them. They're currently preparing their debut 7" EP release so really soon you'll be able to hear new material from them and what this band is capable of. The album will be recorded sometime in the Spring/Summer of 2008 for a Fall release.

HOODED MENACE, the Doom/Death Metal band that features Lasse from Phlegethon/Vacant Coffin, is another new band on Razorback Records. The band is writing 8 songs for their debut album on Razorback to be titled "Fulfill the Curse" which will be released sometime in 2008. The Blind Dead Templars will rise once again and sacrifice young virgins to Satan when this album is unleashed! This will be one of the most incredible debut doom albums ever. This is a band that was meant to be on Razorback Records! Beware!

FONDLECORPSE is still writing material for their long awaited debut album, "Creaturegore". The band was recently featured on the short horror film, FLUSH! They also have a new t-shirt available from Warlord Clothing (http://www.warlordclothing.com/). The Couch-Potato Gore Army will rise to crush in 2008! More news and updates from the band soon.

FRIGHTMARE is currently on hold as Maniac Neil is completely busy with Blood Freak. There will be a 3rd album, but not until at least 2009. The band has 2 new t-shirts available from Warlod Clothing as well! Check them out!

CONVULSIONS.....is not dead. More news when I have it!

As for our 10th year anniversary plans....we will keep that a surprise! You never know what the old Goreboar will do next, so just keep looking for updates and other surprises in the weeks and months to come! We have something very special planned, but we're not yet ready to announce it. We'll also be repressing lots more out of print titles as well in 2008. We'll announce those more up ahead.

On a final note, I just want to really thank all the cool freaks who have supported this label for so long and never gave up on us. When we first started this label we never knew exactly who out there was going to be interested in our vision of what we wanted extreme metal to be, but we're glad to know we weren't alone! This label has always been dedicated to our love for the horror genre and the classic metal we grew up with. It's never been about trends or trying to fit in with the latest fad of the month. Look for a stronger and more focused Razorback Records in 2008...and beyond!

Razorback Records is very excited to announce the 2nd album from Colorado's "supernatural horror death metal band", CRYPTICUS! The new album is titled "THEY CALLED ME MAD" and will be released on Razorback in early 2008! The album has been over 2 years in the making and the band now has a real drummer! There are 13 songs written and vocalist/guitar/mastermind Patrick Bruss will be uploading a new song on his official myspace page next month!

BLOOD FREAK 4th album status report!

I talked to Neil on the phone last night, and things for the next BLOOD FREAK album are going fucking great. He's been keeping a low profile lately and is just totally focusing on writing music non-stop for the upcoming 4th album. Almost half of the new album is already written! Things with Shad on drums are going excellent and Neil is really enjoying playing without having to play every instrument by himself. He said the new stuff is some of the fastest shit he's ever written with Shad totally killing on the drums. There's tons of doom parts mixed in with the grind stuff and he said the new songs are "darker" sounding with the sleaze factor up high as well. This will be a great mix of all the stuff BLOOD FREAK has done on the first 3 albums, but with a totally fresh new feeling with the addition of Shad on drums!

The album is called "Scared Stiff" and Ed Repka will be painting the new cover in his classic style and the theme of the album is pure 70's and early 80's violent/exploitation/rape-revenge vibes ala Last House On The Left, I Spit On Your Grave, The Candy Snatchers, House By The Edge of the Park, Mother's Day, Class of 1984, and more along with some crazy original stories done in the BLOOD FREAK way!

Once the new album is recorded and out the band looks to start doing some shows

CREEPY and EERIE are back

I'm not sure what to think of this, but I'm definitely excited about them reprinting the classic material in hardcover format. I'll totally buy that for sure! But as for new stuff....not sure what to think. They better get GOOD artists (hey, how about giving Putrid, Adam Geyer, Jeff Zornow, Jake Karns, and Dennis Dread a call?).

*The magazines that gave a whole generation the shivers are back. Creepy and Eerie were the definitive horror and sci-fi comics of the 1960s and flourished up until the early 1980s. Dark Horse Comics has entered into an agreement with New Comic Company to create archive editions of this classic material, as well as launch new Creepy and Eerie comics for modern horror fans. The licensing deal will encompass publishing, select film and TV development, and merchandising. Many of today’s brightest stars will lend their talents to the venture, including horror legend Bernie Wrightson (City of Others) and modern master Steve Niles (30 Days of Night, Criminal Macabre). Creepy is best remembered for its classic horror and was hosted by Uncle Creepy, while Eerie often ventured into science fiction and featured Cousin Eerie as its host. The rest of the gang includes Hunter, Child, El Cid, Marvin the Dead Thing, and the newly developed Creepy Family. The magazines, originally published by Jim Warren are remembered as presenting some of the era’s greatest genre comics work. “Both Creepy and Eerie are fondly remembered by comics fans as representing the best of science fiction and horror, and Dark Horse is proud and excited to relaunch these classic titles,” said Dark Horse publisher Mike Richardson. “Mike Richardson and Dark Horse have an impressive and deep understanding of what it will take to help us correctly re-launch Creepy and Eerie. It’s a great fit for our brands,” said New Comic executive and Submarine Entertainment Co-President Dan Braun, who negotiated the deal in cooperation with CAA—who represents both New Comic and Dark Horse. IMPETIGO reunion show (July 2007) report!

Well, before I talk about my adventures, let me just give a huge FUCK OFF to JFK airport and Delta Airlines for being so fucking shitty and almost making me miss my flight to Ohio. Living on Long Island is the worst and is one of the biggest reasons why it's always so hard for me to travel and get to places to see more people. The traffic, car accidents, rude as fuck people, the LIE, and just completely overcrowded bullshit just depresses and stresses the fuck out of me constantly. I'll never again use Delta and always try to stay the hell away from airports that are almost 2 hours away (with the traffic, yes).

My trip started off badly with one of the worst airline experiences I've ever had. I used to travel a lot more in the 90's and it always used to be so easy, but not anymore! So I was off to a bad start and was worried that things might not go as smoothly but that was quickly erased when I got to the easy going and calm atmosphere of Hopkins Airport in Cleveland, Ohio. That has to be one of the best airports in the country and I've always had good experiences there. I got off the plane, called up my longtime pal Steveggs on my cell phone who got there in less than 10 minutes and off we were to Denny's for breakfast and to check out the map and prepare everything for the 8 hour road trip to Illinois for the IMPETIGO reunion show at the Canopy club in Champaign/Urbana!

I haven't seen Steveggs in 10 years so this was another "reunion" I was having. Steve has always been my best friend in the underground and after this trip I can honestly say he still is 100% my best friend ever. He always thinks of everything and always has stuff planned perfect. He went all out to make sure this trip was a successful one and I'll never forget that. This trip would not have been possible without him, so I wanna thank you bro for just being the MAN and taking care of business!

We hit the road about 1pm and just talked for hours non-stop and never even played any music in the car, which we kept laughing about! The trip was pretty simple and we never got lost or made wrong turns or anything and only made 1 or 2 stops I think for gas and to piss or whatever. We arrived in Illinois and it was still daylight out which ruled and made our trip even easier! We got to the Baymont Inn and unloaded the car. Steveggs brought tons of stuff to sell and give away, his camcorder, his digital camera, coolers filled with food and drinks, CD's for bands to sign, and the most ridiculous thing ever....a bowling bin he found in the trash in Ohio for people attending the fest to sign! You'll see this thing on some of our pictures, it's pretty funny and retarded! Stevo from Impetigo signed the very top of it and tons of other people signed it as well. I can't stop laughing about this. Who the hell brings a bowling pin to a metal show? We do, that's who!

We settled into the hotel for a bit and then started to make a few phone calls. We never really planned to get to the show on time for the Friday night part and only really wanted to pay to get in for the Saturday show but we decided to go to the club anyway to figure out how to get there and also maybe hope to spot a few freaks hanging out outside. We got to the club and immediately were mobbed by oldschool metal freaks! Steve's friend Paul was the first to spot us (nice to meet you man!), and then Tom from CARDIAC ARREST was there to greet us who was totally cool, nice, and down to earth. We tried to buy our Saturday ticket in advance but got shut down hard, so we said fuck it and stood around outside and then it slowly started to happen...every few minutes a new freak would come out of the club to greet us and it the fun really started to begin! Out comes Mark Sawickis from IMPETIGO, a guy I've known since 1990 and one of the nicest people I've ever known in the underground scene! He was cool as fuck and seemed happy that things were going well with the fest and the distro table they set up. So great to finally meet you after all these years, man! A few minutes later, I had the extreme pleasure of meeting one of my all time favorite death metal singers ever from one of my favorite death metal bands....Kam Lee of MASSACRE (and now DENIAL FIEND)!!!! I've been writing to Kam since about 2000 and I knew he was going to be there. He was without a doubt one of the most down to earth and nicest people you could ever meet and we really hit it off and talked about tons of stuff. So fucking great to meet you finally, man! Unreal! The first thing I said to him was "HEYYYYYY, I WANNA TAKE YOU DOWN INTO THE ABYSS!!!!". I was a total nerd quoting Massacre lines, but I was having a fucking blast. Then out came Greg from LINCOLN LOVE LOG, Rob from FORNICATOR/WHORE, Bill from MENTAL FUNERAL, Devon from DECEMBER WOLVES, Adam from CARDIAC ARREST...all totally COOL AS FUCK guys!!!! Then it happened....Stevo, the GORE MASTER FREAK himself, came out and just total madness broke out! It was unbelievable meeting him for the first time, he was just as cool and down to earth as I knew he would be! I knew right then and there that this was going to be the best time ever! Then I met Dan and Scotty from IMPETIGO who were just as nice and friendly as Mark and Stevo were! There really is NO band like IMPETIGO and there never will be! These guys are a class act all the way and other bands should pay attention to how a true underground band should act and treat their fans!

I saw some dude wearing a Razorback Records t-shirt but he walked by so fast that I didn't have a chance to say "nice shirt man!", haha! Whoever you were, thanks for supporting us by wearing that!

We hung out for awhile outside the club and just took a few photos and were laughing, talking, yelling, and just being freaks. Meeting Putrid (one of the greatest horror/gore artists around today no doubt) was a fucking BLAST! This guy is so much fun to talk to and be around, we immediately just started talking about a billion things, especially horror films! There's isn't a more friendly guy than Putrid! He's definitely a new "Chas Balun" for the new generation, in my opinion! You RULE man!! I was lucky to meet him in early 2006 in New York city at an art show that my friend Leon Marcello took me to, so getting to meet him again was a really cool thing and this time we had even more time to hang out and talk! Thanks for the incredible "Blind Dead" art print and slice of pizza, dude!

Around this time we decided to go back to the hotel and get some sleep as we knew Saturday was going to be THE day to hang out and also I had been up since 4:30 am and really needed to recharge badly, especially after my shitty airport experience and 8 hours on the road!

The next morning, the door knocks at 10 am....and who is it? Stevo and Greg from LLL, that's who! They told us to go downstairs and grab breakfast before it was all gone. We were so out of it and thought "food?" and quickly got our shoes on and ran the fuck down to pig out. We were all grubby and stunk but who cares, free food! We got there and Putrid was chowing down with his buddies and wearing the same exact HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP shirt that I own and brought with me! Warped minds think alike, right man? haha!

After we ate and wiped the food from our faces, we got ready to go to the club early to see Impetigo do a sound check rehearsal and also Stevo said he would take us to Pogo Studio where IMPETIGO recorded the legendary "Faceless" and "Horror of the Zombies" masterpieces in the early 90's! This we had to see! We got to the club and met even more cool oldschool freaks, like Adam Conrad who was wearing a killer Demigod t-shirt. Nice to finally meet you, man! After the soundcheck, we went to Pogo Studio and was really blown away by how cool and unique the place was. It had a very eclectic and "antique" quality to it, with tons of bizarre things on the walls and all over the place. The plastic E.T. halloween mask was a highlight, as well as the gas can-shaped guitar! We took a bunch of photos and just had a really good time and I totally envisioned what it must have been like to have been there in 1991 when Impetigo recorded these classic gems! What a surreal moment, indeed.

We went back to the club, paid for our tickets(finally, haha!) and were immediately talking with about 20 different people at the same time. I hung out with Kam Lee some more at the Ibex Moon distro table and got to meet John from INCANTATION and his wife Jill from FUNERUS, who are always really nice as hell folks. I've met them a few times in the past and they've always been really friendly and have a great sense of humor. Kam and I chatted about the upcoming new DENIAL FIEND album, one of the few newer metal releases I'm actually looking forward to! He told me that Tim Vigil (horror comic GOD!!) drew the cover art for the new album and that just totally blew me away! I also got to meet Ash Thomas from the bands ESTUARY and FAITHXTRACTOR. Ash is a guy I always remember from the early 90's as he was the first guy to ever buy my old death metal zine THE COVEN! He was my first "customer" and it was just really insane to meet him. Really nice guy and totally down to earth. His new band FAITHXTRACTOR totally KILLS!!! I need to work with this guy one day I hope. I also met another oldschool guy that used to buy stuff off me in the early 90's, a friendly fellow by the name of Lincoln Archibald. So great to meet you man, I was so shocked you were at this! Impetigo really brings out the TRUE die hard freaks!! Then I met a guy who calls himself Wazze who is on myspace and makes some of the most incredibly detailed and lifelike special FX/props/puppet/creatures like Critters and Ghoulies and stuff like that. Totally amazing work! He drove all the way from Pennsylvania just to see Impetigo! Really cool as hell guy and fun to talk to. He wore a killer Basket Case t-shirt so you knew he was instantly rad, haha! Speaking of people that came really far to see Impetigo, a guy by the name of Everett came all the way from Canada just to see his all time favorite band Impetigo. He had to be the most die hard Impetigo fan ever, he sat next to their distro table the entire time, bought tons of their merchandise, and just had this intense look of excitement to see them perform! It was people like this that made me realize more than ever just how important Impetigo is to some people and how special and unique of a band they truly art!

I walked around the club a bunch and talked with tons of other people and met Steve from Emetic Records who was a really nice guy and seemed to do well with his distro there. Thanks for stocking our CD's, I noticed a bunch of people walking around with Gruesome Stuff Relish and Lord Gore CD's. You're all probably wondering why I didn't bring stuff to sell there. Well, I just came to hang out! I didn't want to have to stand at a distro table all day and just wanted to meet and talk to people, take goofy photos, and just be a freak with my friends. Also I didn't want to take any business away from Impetigo and made sure they had all the Impetigo CD's to sell exclusively so they could make some cash. I met a bunch of people who came up to me and told me how much Razorback Records meant to them and how much they liked all the CD's we've done over the years and that totally blew me away! I met a few people that were total BLOOD FREAK fans which was so cool as well.

The moment came to finally meet Sly the Goregnome from FONDLECORPSE...the guy that has done almost 98% of our CD layouts over the years and our biggest supporter and friend! Without Sly, there would definitely not be a Razorback Records! I was shocked that he was coming to America for this fest and even more shocked on how "at the last minute" he got his plane ticket! I knew this fest would be something even more special with him being there, and it truly was indeed! Sly was the fucking best and it was just really surreal to spend time with him in person instead of instant messenger or email. I also got to spend time with his girl Nickolle (aka Misses Gnome) who was extremely nice, friendly and had a great sense of humor! It was our pleasure taking you both to the club and it was great that you stayed at the same hotel as we did! I'll never forget the time we spent and all the laughs we had, and I really hope to meet you both again in the near future, which I get the feeling will be sooner than later!! muuuuhhhhaaaa!!!!

Later on I met Jim Sadist and Don of the Dead from NUNSLAUGHTER who were both cool as fuck. I've met Jim off and on over the years from my days of doing PILE OF EGGS as he used to jam sometimes with us and he's also the main guy in MINCH and SCHNAUZER! Good to see you after all these years, man. Don of the Dead was totally cool, easy going and down to earth which was really cool since I've been a huge NUNSLAUGHTER fan for years and I've written and done emails with him off and on over the years. I had a really good talk with him about a bunch of stuff and have always respected how he runs NUNSLAUGHTER which to me is the ultimate way to run a death metal band! Do it YOURSELF and own all the rights to your own music, people! And don't work with stuck up money hungry asshole labels that force you to sign "contracts", too!

I met Scott from CIANIDE who was also totally cool, funny, and friendly. I've been a fan of them since 1991 and they've never followed any trends and stuck with playing killer, pure death metal and never broke up! They're one of the few bands that always put out great albums, years after they formed! How rare is that?!? Seeing CIANIDE live was totally insane, they were so amazingly HEAVY that it sounded like a nuclear explosion had gone off in the club. I've never heard a death metal band sound like that live EVER!

I hung out a lot and talked with the guys in Impetigo and really felt like I got to know them pretty well, despite my limited time with them. Dan(drums) was really nice and I got to ask him tons of questions about what influenced his unique drumming style and he happily answered them all and it really gave me a better insight on his playing and style. Scotty(guitar) was really easy going and friendly and walked around the club happily with an oldschool Deceased t-shirt that looks like it had been encased in a time capsule since the last time he probably wore it in 1992, haha! Scotty rocked! I chatted with Mark a lot about various stuff which was so insane as I've always just did letters and emails with him, and this time I got to discuss stuff in person face to face which will always be 100xxxx better than email and letters. We discussed some top secret Impetigo project and it was just so great to hang out with my long time friend. You rule Mark! I got to talk to Stevo quite a lot, despite that he was always talking with tons of other people and seemed really busy and never stood still once. We talked about CONVULSIONS a lot, and yes folks, this band is still happening 100%! Stevo and I discussed a lot of the bad things about today's metal scene and compared it to the old days when people were more friendly and down to earth and had less ego and when people tried to work together instead of compete with each other and get jealous of each other's success. Stevo hasn't really been active in the scene for many years so it was interesting to get his views on what he felt about the scene, an issue I also discussed with Kam Lee. These guys are legends of death/grind/horror/gore metal, in my opinion, and there's nothing more exciting knowing that in person they're really just FANS before anything else and totally down to earth without any rock start bullshit attitude at all. These are the kinds of people I've always tried to work with while doing Razorback for the past 9 years and I'm glad to know that people who I've always looked up to are so damn fucking COOL as hell!

I got to hang out with Rob from FORNICATOR/WHORE/MURDER BASKET a bunch who totally rules and had a lot of funny stories to tell. This guy has known IMPETIGO way longer than even I have and totally knows what the real underground is all about. It was totally cool as fuck watching MORTICIAN live with him and totally enjoying every classic song they played. Can't wait to see what you record next with HUMILIATOR, man! I also got to hang out a lot with Greg from LINCOLN LOVE LOG who was a really fun and hilarious guy to talk with! He's really open minded and into tons of cool stuff and really loves horror/gore films and obscure music. Thanks for all the great chats we had and all the totally nice things you had to say about Razorback, man! I really appreciated that and I look forward to hanging out with you again in the future! You rule!

Finally, it was time to see IMPETIGO, the main reason why I was there to begin with and the band that influenced everything I had done with Razorback Records and all the other various things I've done in the underground over the years. The lights went down, and the familiar sound of maggots swarming and oozing around from the classic Gates of Hell blasted from the stage...yep, it was time for a total GORE MASSACRE!!! The first song was "Dis-organ-ized" and it sounded perfect. The band was totally "on". They sounded heavier than ever and Stevo was the most entertaining front man ever in death metal/gore. All the stuff he said in between songs had everybody on their feet and laughing their asses off. There is NOBODY like Stevo in death/grind, no fucking way. They played all the classics! "Breakfast At The Manchester Morgue" was a highlight....heavy, creepy, dark, and CRUSHING! Just...wow!!! Matt Bishop from HUMAN ARTIFACTS did a killer job doing backing vox on "Bloody Pit Of Horror", Rob from FORNICATOR did a sweet job on backing vox for "Defiling The Grave" in his classic style, and finally...Kam Lee himself came out and sang the 2nd verse of "Boneyard" with Stevo which is something I'll NEVER forget!!! It sounded awesome!!! Tom from CARDIAC ARREST was standing next to me and kept saying "this is the best show ever!" and I have to say I agree 100%. The band played more songs like "I Work For The Street Cleaner", "Staph Terrorist", "Mortado" and dedicated "Dear Uncle Creepy" to some loser named Billy Nocera from some noobdy label called "Razorback Records"? Who the fuck is that, I asked?!? Oh well, hope he was proud of that! ;) Impetigo blew everybody away and the place was packed with headbanging, gore hungry metal freaks. It was so amazing to see them after being away from playing music for so many years being totally on TOP of their game and sounding better than they ever did. This was finally, for me, the ultimate "reunion" show and everything was done perfectly! I got more than my money's worth and knew right then and there that it was totally worth it to make this trip. I'll never forget this, ever!

After Impetigo, it was time to see MORTICIAN! They sounded heavy as fuck and each song was played with precision and perfection. The drummer was from MORPHEUS DESCENDS and did blast beats perfectly and tight as hell. They played tons of the classic early 90's songs from their first demo/7" and also "Mortal Massacre" and "House by the Cemetery", all with the classic movie samples! Me and Putrid had fun naming off each movie the samples came from. Great job to MORTICIAN and a killer way to end an amazing time! My only regret was that I didn't get to meet Will Rahmer and get a photo taken. Hopefully next time man!

We left the club and me, Steveggs, Sly, and Misses Gnome left for the hotel and hung out more and got some food. They had to get to bed to get up for a horror con in Chicago so we left their room and started walking to ours when all of a sudden we saw Dan from Impetigo and hooked up with him. He ordered pizza and we saw Mark Sawickis outside waiting for it so we hung out with them for about an hour and just talked about how great the show was and the crowd response, etc. They had to get up early so we left their room and went back to ours and crashed in a dazed state of bliss and excitement for what we had just experienced.

The next morning I woke up early and ran down for breakfast but all the food was gone so all I had was coffee and then I went to Sly and Misses Gnome's room and hung out with them for awhile. Then I went back to our room and Steveggs told me Stevo was there looking for me so I ran down to the lobby and said my goodbyes to him and told him that this was only the beginning, as the birth of CONVULSIONS would continue the legacy of pure horror worshipping death gore metal!!! Stevo, you RULE and it's an honor to be your friend. I said my goodbyes to Mark as well and we chatted a bit more about a top secret Impetigo project and some other stuff and said our goodbyes as well. IMPETIGO is the greatest underground metal band ever, 'nuff said! Thanks for letting Razorback do the reissues and for always supporting me and Jill and our bands so much over the years!

We hung out a bunch more with Bill from MENTAL FUNERAL zine, Devon from DECEMBER WOLVES, and Rob from FORNICATOR in the hotel lobby and talked about horror flicks, music, and other cool shit. These guys were 3 of the coolest people I met at this fest and I wanna thank them for hanging out with a bunch of dorks like us.

Then it was time to say our goodbyes to Sly and his gore-gal....and this was the most sad part of the experience. We really wanted to hang out with them more and wished we could have gone to the horror con with them in Chicago but we had to get back to Ohio. We took a few last minute photos and had a few laughs and then that was it...the weekend/fest/party was OVER!

We drove back to Ohio and got into town about 11pm at night and went to Denny's for some grub. We stayed up pretty late just talking and laughing about tons of shit and Steveggs told me about Norton Furniture, this company in Cleveland that sells stuff to people who don't have credit which is run by this strange guy named Marc Brown who does these creepy and retarded late night low budget commercials! Look this shit up on myspace and youtube to see how hilarious and stupid this shit is, haha! There's a picture of me on my myspace page doing a parody of this guy. Ask Steveggs about it also, it's so dumb and funny!

The next day we went to Record Exchange and looked at some lame assed mainstream horror DVD's and bought absolutely nothing at all. We drove around a bit, then went back to Steve's house where Jim Sadist from NUNSLAUGHTER showed up and ate some dinner with us and talked metal for a few hours, and then we hooked up with Scott from SCHNAUZER at his apartment and talked about a bunch of stuff and jammed some old death metal and just laughed like fools for awhile. Jim's car is totally insane! The NUNSLAUGHTERMOBILE! Check the photos on my page! That rules!! I need to get my own BUTCHERMOBILE one day! The next day I went back home to lousy assed Long Island and saw 2 car accidents (seriously)....I knew then the party was truly over and I was back in the hell that is Long Island.
I hate my life.

Well that's it folks. I've never really been good at writing stories like this before, so I apologize if this was boring and not as detailed as I would have liked it to have been. This was definitely a trip I was happy to take and I would do it again if IMPETIGO would play again! Me and Steveggs were discussing trying to do some kind of metal fest/show/whatever thing in Ohio but who knows. Another regret I have is that me and him didn't get to record any noise/music like we used to do in the 90's...but something tells me I'll be visiting this freak once again very very SOON!

Anyway, thanks for reading all this! Sorry if I forgot to mention anybody in this, I wrote it rather quickly as I'm so swamped with mail and other stuff. After reading about how horrible this movie was for years, I finally sat my ass down and watched it last night. First off, the quality on this Shriek Show release is EXCELLENT! The picture quality looks awesome, and the DVD comes with a 2nd disc with lots of bonus stuff including a documentary on Lucio Fulci (which I haven't watched yet). But anyway, about the actual film....well, it's definitely one of Fulci's worst films and there were TONS of really boring parts and non-stop talking and jibber-jabber from dull as fuck cops. The dancing scenes were actually pretty hilarious in a cheesy 80's kinda way and thankfully weren't as long as I thought they would be. The opening kill scene is the best and actually pretty nasty. There's no real gore, but the way it's done is really grim and cruel. There's TONS of welcome nudity in this fillm, lots of it from the actress who was in Fulci's ZOMBIE (the woman who gets poked in the eye with the splinter of wood!). That's about all I can really recommend about this film. The soundtrack is cheesy 80's synth-pop done by Keith Emerson and it's really funny shit!

Not the worst movie ever, but not something I'll be watching again anytime soon. Still, if you're a desperate trash film collector (like me) it's worth owning, especially if you can get it for a decent price.

I watched this last night and it had to be the most plotless film ever. It's really about...NOTHING! Just a time capsule of high school kids in the late 70's doing what they did back then, such as: having sex, smoking pot, having sex, stealing fire trucks and spraying the opposing High School football/cheerleader team with a giant hose, getting into fights, having more sex, chugging beers, driving around (and screwing) in the back of huge vans, listening to FM 70's rock music, cruising, banging cheerleaders, etc.

So basically...lots of cheesy, mindless fun! If you dig 70's drive-in flicks, this is a must see.

I really have a feeling that movie Dazed And Confused ripped this off!

This is on a double DVD release from BCI that also includes THE VAN (which I haven't watched yet but will soon).

GRUESOME STUFF RELISH will release their long-awaited 2nd album on Razorback Records later this year! It's been 5 years since the release of their debut album in 2002 and we've tried doing a 2nd album with them for a long time so we're really excited about this! The band will record this summer and we'll release the album in the Fall/Winter.

The new album will be titled "Horror Rises from the Tomb" and the cover art will be drawn by Jeff Zornow (Cryptic Magazine, Day of the Dead comics, etc.)! Fans of Italian and Spanish horror cinema and early 90's influenced death/grind/gore excellence, be prepared!

The band recently recorded a 10 song promo demo to test out what the new songs will sound like. 2 of those tracks can be found on their official myspace page, and we have just uploaded another exclusive track on the official Razorback myspace page. Check it out!

GRUESOME STUFF RELISH is an underground death/grind band from Spain who are the ultimate fusion of early 90's old-school Swedish death metal(Carnage, Dismember) and the splatter/gore sound and feel of Impetigo and Necrony. The band's concept revolves around their extreme love for the classic Italian horror films from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Giallo killers, cannibals, zombies, and other lurid tales of terror!
The band was formed from members of early 90's death metal band Repugnance and recorded their first demo in 2001 (which later became a split CD with Holland's Brutality Reigns Supreme). On the strength of this release, the band then released their debut album on Razorback Records in 2002 titled "Teenage Giallo Grind".

In 2003 and 2004, the band released some various split CD's and also the "Last Men In Gore" CD(Motosierra Records) that collected the tracks from the demo/BRS split CD, the never released "Last Men Alive" EP, and 5 unreleased tracks recorded in early 2003.

After this the band broke up but has now returned from the dead to record their long-awaited 2nd full-length album! Get ready for more tales of the undead, gut-munching, intestine-tearing, apocalyptic post-nuke horrors, rancid maggots, knife-slicing lunatics, and worship and love for everything that was great about the early 90's death/grind metal underground!

Once again, sorry for my lack of activity here, folks! It's been a busy few weeks with the release of both the IMPETIGO "Horror of the Zombies" CD and the BLOOD FREAK "Multiplex Massacre" CD! I wanna thank everybody that's supported these 2 new releases and hope that everybody enjoys them. With distribution always hard to get, ordering direct from our web site always helps out the most. I'm going to be starting a new job soon and will really be cutting back on myspace related stuff, so if anybody wants to get in touch PLEASE always email me as its the best and fastest way to get a reply. Myspace email is simply the WORST system ever. It hardly ever works and is really fucking slow and shitty. If you don't hear from me on myspace email it's not because I'm ignoring you, it's because I really can't stand it and prefer "oldschool email" (I can't believe I just said that, haha! Since when did email become oldschool?)

Anyway...there's a lot of really exciting things up ahead for Razorback. FONDLECORPSE looks to finally start the recording for the long-awaited "Creaturegore" album this summer! The "Blood And Popcorn" mini-CD is almost ready to go! Also, the F.K.U. "Metal Moshing Mad" album will be going to press soon. Adam Geyer is almost finished with the new cover art and he promises its his BEST work yet! As soon as it's done I will post it here first! F.K.U. will be playing some live shows on the West Coast this summer, including the Goregon Massacre fest. We hope to have their CD out before so they can have copies to sell at the shows.

A few months ago, Neil from BLOOD FREAK and FRIGHTMARE made an update that he was stopping his bands. Please keep in mind this guy has done 9 albums in a span of 5 years! (MANIAC KILLER, LORD GORE, and WHORE included). He did 3 albums for Razorback recently in 2 years (the recent FRIGHTMARE album and 2 new BLOOD FREAK albums). I don't think anybody has ever recorded that many high quality albums in such a short time, so feeling a bit burnt out and tired was understandable. After recently relocating to Los Angeles, he's once again back to doing what he truly loves the most...writing and recording music! Neil is currently looking for musicians to start doing BLOOD FREAK on a more full-time basis and to start playing some shows on the West Coast. Get in touch with him if you're interested! Episode 666: REVENGE OF THE GOREBOAR!

Wow it's been a long time since I've posted here. Sorry for the lack of stuff here lately, I appreciate anybody still checking this page out! I'm definitely not done with it, I've just been doing more with my personal myspace page more I guess lately (mostly posting stupid cat pictures on Jill's page, but hey, whoever said I was normal? ha!). Check my page out here. It's been fun I guess, but myspace is a love/hate kinda thing for me. There's lots of cool freaks on there but also LOTS of posers and stuck up rude assholes...ugh! But whatever, it's a cool place to find real fans of horror and cool oldschool metal and other cool shit I'm into. So thanks to anybody that's cool there and checks out my page!

Well, in the next few days I'll have the copies of IMPETIGO "Horror of the Zombies" in stock! This was a total labor of love to put together! I really feel like the layout for this blows away the one for "Ultimo Mondo Cannibale", and it's all thanks to Sly from FONDLECORPSE! Thanks again for everything that you do, man. You are the king of layouts! The layout for "HOTZ" is a lot more creative than the "Ultimo" one was, and has even more detailed liner notes from Stevo...especially in the descriptions of each song which is just so much fun to read. Stevo knows how to keep you interested and really delivers the GORY goods when it comes to writing about the history of IMPETIGO and his other projects. I wanna thank him again for going all out for this release. Long time fans and people just discovering IMPETIGO are in a for a treat with this CD! Also, the remastered sound is incredible and the album is HEAVIER than ever before, all thanks to Patrick from CRYPTICUS. Thanks again for busting your ass on this, man! What can I say...this album is a total CLASSIC...one of the truly last classic albums from the early 90's death metal era in my opinion. A lot of time and money has been put into this re-issue and I'm just really proud of it. Hope everybody will check it out and support it...and of course, enjoy it! Remember, there would simply be NO Razorback Records without the existence and music of IMPETIGO...

Also...going to press in the next week or so is the new BLOOD FREAK "Multiplex Massacre" CD. What can I say about this band? It's everything I always wanted in a death/grind/gore/thrash metal band...and more! When I first started Razorback, I wanted to work with bands who were obsessive about oldschool, forgotten, obscure horror/drive-in style movies from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. I grew up on this kinda stuff and was always fascinated with the poser art/imagery from roaming the old "Mom and Pop" video stores in the 80's with all of that great and lurid advertising the posters and VHS boxes had. When Neil from FRIGHTMARE/LORD GORE started BLOOD FREAK in 2003, I jumped at the chance to release the first CD because he was doing what I had always wanted to do with my own band back in the 90's, PISSED OFF ORGASM...but I wasn't able to pull it off because I had no musical ability at all. That was when I quit doing "music" and started Razorback. So to work with something like BLOOD FREAK is a dream come true for me and I'm really commited to this band. Some people probably don't "get" what this band is about...and that's fine, but for me it's just really something I enjoy working with and the music is really extreme, but yet totally oldschool and catchy and has REAL songs you can totally headbang to or whatever. This new album has it all....thrash parts, wicked death metal riffs, doomy parts, Terrorizer-style blast beats, crazed vocals with variety...etc. What else can you ask for these days? I think that if you dug the recent FRIGHTMARE album and the last BLOOD FREAK album, you'll most certainly like this one as it combines both into one INSANE sound. This is pure ear-candy for sure! I'm also really excited about all of the artwork that Putrid drew for this release. He really went all out and brought all the characters and stuff to life! This guy is a 100% true hardcore horror fantatic and it definitely shows in every piece of art he has drawn. Also, Sly from FONDLECORPSE put together another really killer layout for this and really gave it the extra kick it needed in certain areas. Thanks again, man!

F.K.U. "Metal Moshing Mad" re-issue is coming together also! Adam Geyer has drawn an incredible sketch and is currently painting it. All of the classic horror icons come to life! Prepare to be blown away. This guy really knows how to draw horror! The guys in the band have remastered the album and have given it an extra kick, along with totally remastering the demo tracks as well! There's so many thrash bands today, but there's just something about F.K.U. that make them stand out from the rest. I really hope more people will discover this great band with this release and I'm really proud to be putting it out on Razorback. I've wanted to do this re-issue for the past 2-3 years but was always so booked with other releases, so it's just really cool to finally have the chance and time to do it! Thanks again to Pat and Larry and the guys for all the support over the years and enthusiasm for horror! There's few thrash bands who give a shit about the horror genre, so it's really great and special that a band like F.K.U. exists!

So basically these 3 releases will be the ones I'll be working my ass off to promote this year. I've always wanted this label to be about quality over quantity, so this is where I am in 2007. Three total horror metal albums, each from different eras....all worshipping the horror genre, and all kicking ass with REAL fucking metal with actual songs you can REMEMBER and listen to over and over again. I don't know about you...but to me this is what metal was always supposed to be about!

In other news....now that the new BLOOD FREAK is finished, Neil Smith will start working on the FRIGHTMARE songs for the long awaited split CD with FONDLECORPSE! Thought FRIGHTMARE was dead? Nope! It's only just begun! There's gonna be some killer songs for this split, and I believe there will be songs about I Spit On Your Grave and the great early 80's slasher, Happy Birthday To Me! I also believe there will be a song about Don't Answer The Phone, which recently got a killer uncut DVD release late last year! Speaking of FRIGHTMARE, I wanna thank Shane from the great HorrorYearBook web site for making this really cool fan page for the band. Check it out here!

FONDLECORPSE is writing new material for their album while waiting for the split CD to be released. I heard new rough mix demo tracks and it sounds totally insane. These guys are definitely putting an original spin and twist on the gore/death metal sound! More news when I have it! This band is really gonna surprise a lot of people when their full vision and sound finally get out there more!

CONVULSIONS..... will fucking RULE when it finally starts to come together. 'Nuff said! Stevo has tons of riffs and song plans for this and it will be a total TREAT for fans of obscure horror! It will take time though...so hang in there and drool for this like I am! Stevo is 100% dedicated to this band and concept!

I'll be going to the Central Illinois Fest this Summer to see my all-time favorite underground metal band ever...IMPETIGO! I'm looking forward to meeting tons of you oldschool metal and horror freaks and take goofy photos with me making stupid faces and flashing the devil horns. haha! I'll be going to this show just to hang out, not to sell anything. Seeing IMPETIGO live is a big dream come true for me so I can't wait! I'm also looking forward to seeing CIANIDE, CARDIAC ARREST, and MORTICIAN! I'll be there with my old friend Steveggs from PILE OF EGGS / NUT SCREAMER / SCHNAUZER / MINCH, etc. I haven't seen him in over 10 years so this is going to be another cool reunion for me personally! I'm also looking to possibly record some new noise stuff with him if time allows. PILE OF EGGS needs to return, dammit! Why you ask? For no reason at all! :)

In the next few weeks the fucking BIBLE of horror/drive-in/exploitation films will be coming out...NIGHTMARE, USA! I've been drooling for this book ever since I heard it was coming out a year or 2 ago I believe. It looks to be over 500 pages, in a LARGE sized format. It's gonna blow everything away! I'll probably carry this book wherever I go, haha. I'm excited about it because it features really obscure stuff that other genre books seem to always ignore. Movies like DON'T GO IN THE HOUSE, BOARDING HOUSE, HEADLESS EYES, HITCH HIKE TO HELL, MESSIAH OF EVIL (this movie is creepy as fuck!), I DRINK YOUR BLOOD, AXE, FROZEN SCREAM, FIGHT FOR YOUR LIFE, MICROWAVE MASSACRE, and other classic "gems" from the glory days of sleazy cinema! Go to the FAB PRESS site to check out more info! If you claim to be a horror fan and have no interest in this book...well then...you weren't really into horror to begin with, were you? ;)

Another amazing book that's coming out is Cinema Sewer: The Adults Only Guide to History's Sickest and Sexiest Movies! This fanzine is the BIBLE of old 70's porn/sleaze/exploitation/trash, so I'm especially excited to see this insane beast in a killer book format, put out by FAB PRESS of course! That company can do NO wrong in my opinion. I was checking out Fangoria's news page (and totally ignoring all the stupid Halloween remake updates, ugh!) and spotted this cool tidbit of info. NIGHT OF THE COMET coming to DVD! Cool! I always liked this fun, cheesy 80's flick. It was always on cable TV back in the day and I haven't seen it in a really long time. I'll definitely be picking this up.

After the harrowing experiences on Blood Island, Dr. Bill Foster is about to return to USA by boat. He is certain that the problems on the island are solved now, but he wishes he could have seen more of the island. Suddenly a green blooded fiend from the island comes forth from its hiding place and starts attacking the crew of the boat, wreaking havoc on board. Dr. Foster jumps into the fight, as he and the rest of the crew tries to kill of the ghoul, but the beast is to strong, and in the midst of the fighting a barrel of leaking gasoline hits an open flame and the boat is blown to bits. The creature makes it back onto the shores of Blood Island, and Dr. Foster is rescued at sea and taken back to the mainland. The first thing he does when he is back is organizing a new expedition to the infamous island, and this time a beautiful and nosey reporter, Myra Russell, has taken the liberty of joining him on his journey, in order to find a story for her paper. When they arrive at the island, Dr. Foster and Miss. Russell are greeted in the usual, cold manner of the terrified village, and they quickly learn that the green blooded monsters are back to mutilate the villagers. The problems starts almost immediately as Miss Russell are attacked in their cabin at night by one of the green blooded ghouls that lurk around on the island. The next day, Dr. Foster is taken to the ruins of the mad doctor's laboratory and hideout, to try to find out who is behind the problems on the island this time. After searching through the ruins at night he finds a secret passage that leads a way through underground caves in the Jungle, but as soon as he is about to share his discovery with the rest of his team and the villagers, Miss Russell is kidnapped by the green blooded men. Dr. Foster and his gang of helpers from the village sets out to find her and travels through the secret passage, where they see Miss Russell as a prisoner of no other than Razak, the Mad Doctor's trusted henchman. When Dr. Foster and a young woman fro the tribe sets out to rescue Myra, they discover that the good old Mad Doctor Lorca is alive and well and cooking up his most diabolical, chlorophyll infested plan ever! Can Dr. Foster and his team stop the Dr. Lorca and save Myra before it is too late?

Beast of Blood is the third and finale entry in the Blood Island series and this time Romero delivers a climax worthy of the final film in this infamous film series. It features the old faces of John Ashley, again in his role as Dr. Foster and good old Bruno Punzalan as the brutish henchman Razak. The plot in this film is basically the same as in the previous film, but this time there is more action, a bit more gore and even cooler cheesy special effects. The acting is more of the same as in the previous two films and holds up quite nicely for an old exploitation film like this, John Ashley is as always good in his part as the inquisitive doctor. The soundtrack is (again) like in the other films very distinctive and works very well with the action in the film. This final feature in the Blood Island series provides just what you want from the climax to our escapades in the jungles of the island, gore, sleaze and loads of explosive action. Action hungry exploitation freaks will certainly get a kick out of watching this film, and of course this is a mandatory flick for those who loved the first two films in the series!

Some flicks I've watched lately...

JUNIOR (1984)

This is one sleazy, retarded, fun MESS of a film! Made in Canada, it's a bad mixture of I Spit On Your Grave, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and....uh, who am I kidding...it's NOTHING like those movies, it's just mindless violence and CHEESE! All you need to know is...there's tons of nudity and bare boobs, lots of cursing and obscene language, lots of violence and death, and really BAD acting! What else do you need to know? It's not on DVD but try to find a copy anyway you can! It's totally worth seeing for trash film fans.

RAW FORCE (1982)

Oh wow, I've wanted to see this film for years and I'm so glad I finally got to. Imagine an American film company trying to do a Hong Kong style action/exploitation flick and failing miserably! Yep! Lots of bad kung-fu fighting scenes, shitty acting, cheesy "cannibal" monks, weak sword fights, and best of all tons of boobs and nudity! It even has a drunken, fat, old Cameron Mitchell as a grumpy sea captain as well as a nude(once again!) Camille Keaton from I Spit On Your Grave in a totally pointless but appreciated scene!
It's faced paced and never gets boring, but boy is it STUPID! You might hate yourself after watching it but you'll enjoy the ride. Again, this isn't on DVD but worth tracking down. The poster art is awesome and cracks me up!

THE BRAIN (1988)

I haven't watched this movie since I was a kid in 1989. I first saw it on cable TV back when Cinemax used to show cool, cheesy horror stuff like Twice Dead, Hell High, and Night of the Demons! The Brain fucking rules and has one of the coolest looking creatures ever. A giant killer, human-eating brain with huge teeth...what's not to love here? I won't get into the story...just the facts: it's gory as fuck, has some topless scenes(always a must), is fast paced, and is a great example of oldschool FX scenes always being better than shitty fucking CGI crap that ruins 99% of today's "horror" movies. This movie NEEDS a special edition DVD release badly from Anchor Bay or Shriek Show. A must see and a personal favorite!

THE REJUVENATOR (1988)

A cheesy attempt at trying to do a RE-ANIMATOR style horror/gore film but totally failing, of course! Still, this has some decent gore scenes and other fun shit. It's about an aging woman wanting her youth back and using this retarded, balding doctor to provide it for her by using brain matter from rats....or something like that? Eventually it stops working and the woman turns into this ugly (and I do mean UGLY) looking freak and turns to killing humans and sucking their brain matter to help get young again. It actually sounds better than it really is, but...I still enjoyed it and it has that really cool, dated late 80's "charm" that I always like. The lead actress is lame and so is the guy playing the doctor, one of the most annoying and irritating charcaters ever. This is only for die-hard gore fans who crave cheese!

Also, I recently just ordered 2 violent Asian category 3 flicks chock full of sex and violence! I'll report back when I get them. Category 3 films are the best and most violent ever. Check out this cool new myspace group that Jose(Psycho Sleaze comics) started.

ARRGGGHHH!!!! Lots of great new stuff is coming up from the horror HIVE, but...I can't really mention any of it yet! Trust me though, some really insane stuff is in the works and I haven't been this excited in a long time. There's stuff happening that is gonna BLOW everything away! Look for some special announcements SOON!

My original vision of this label being a total HORROR/GORE worshipping METAL label is still the same, and the stuff planned stays 110% true to this concept and will NOT be compromised! While other people give up on horror, make fun of it, or say they're "bored" with it... we embrace it even more and take it to the next level of enthusiasm with NO regrets or shame!

Maniac Neil is busy finishing up the recordings for the BLOOD FREAK "Multiplex Massacre" CD and promises us his BEST release EVER! Woah! He told me it's like a mixture of the recent new FRIGHTMARE and BLOOD FREAK releases all in one. Crushing, catchy thrash meeting heavy as fuck oldschool death metal/grind and slow, doomy, Autopsy-style stuff! Expect the usual incredible production and sound as well!

FONDLECORPSE has finished all 5 of their songs for the upcoming split CD with FRIGHTMARE, and as you can hear from the new mp3 posted on their myspace page, this is a band not to be fucked with! It brings me great delight to finally release new music from the best kept secret in underground death/gore metal music! This release will also set the stage for the band's long-awaited full-length album, "Creaturegore", which is already in the works! Stay tuned for more info on the split CD and album soon!

IMPETIGO "Horror of the Zombies" re-issue will come out in the Spring of 2007 to coincide with the band's 20th year anniversary! It's incredible to see the band get back together for a reunion show next Summer. I still can't believe it's really happening. Without IMPETIGO, there simply would be NO Razorback Records, end of story! After the total failure of the Razorback Records fest, this reunion show for IMPETIGO more than makes up for it and I will definitely be at this show ready to headbang to "Dear Uncle Creepy" with devil horns high in the air and all that shit! haha!

Don't forget the LORD GORE represses, and lots of top secret stuff I mentioned earlier. 2007 is gonna be one hell of a year for Razorback. A new era begins!
